  • Details:  This beautiful open sugar bowl by Indiana Glass is footed, clear glass with two handles.  It has an unusual base in a diamond shape.  The rim is scalloped shape and the wavy Pretzel pattern is so unique. The Pretzel pattern was made by the Indiana Glass Company from the 1930's to the 1960's, it was very popular and it's part of the Depression Glass collectibles.  This shape sugar is called an open sugar bowl, never had a lid.  We can see it being used to serve sauces with a pretty little ladle, even as an open salt cellar.  Perfect for candies, nuts, olives, even to hold matchbooks.  Great hostess gift with a flavored sugar!

Depression glass is clear or colored translucent machine made glassware that was distributed free, or at low cost, in the United States and Canada around the time of the Great Depression starting in the 1920's but continued past the depression into the 1950's.   Food manufacturers and distributors put a piece of glassware in boxes of food, as an incentive to purchase. Some movie theaters, gas stations and other businesses handed out pieces as a thank you for shopping at their establishment.
