Fantastic and rare oil and kerosene vehicle lamp from the French brand Summa, in very good and fully working condition.
Although this lamp has the size and appearance of a bicycle lamp, it may also have been intended for use on another type of vehicle. On the side, it is fitted with a clamping plate that allows it to be mounted securely. The lamp features a large convex lens, reminiscent of those found on classic bullseye lanterns. On the side there is a small door that provides access to the fishtail burner, which produces a beautiful, low and wide flame.
One of the retaining clips is fitted with a spring, allowing the fuel reservoir beneath to be easily released. A bent metal support, resembling a crocodile‑shaped letter opener, is also included. This clever accessory allows the lamp to be placed upright without tipping over, adding to its versatility.
The exact age of the lamp is unknown, but it is most likely from the period between approximately 1920 and 1940. The lamp shows light signs of age, including some minor dents in the top, but these traces of use only add to its character and authenticity.
This Summa lamp is a wonderful addition to a collection, particularly for a cycling enthusiast, but it also makes a striking decorative object. Thanks to its nickel-plated finish, it looks especially good as an accent piece in an industrial-style interior.
The lamp has a height of approximately 15 cm.
