Eight glasses. Eight portraits. Eight signatures. A piece of American radio history you can drink from.
This is a set of eight vintage green glass highball glasses featuring white pyroglaze enamel portraits and signatures of WLW Radio personalities from the Midwestern Hayride program — one of Cincinnati's most beloved radio and television variety shows, which ran from 1930 to 1972. Each glass features a different personality's portrait surrounded by additional signatures from their colleagues at the station. The eight featured: Ruth Lyons, Sally Flowers, Bonnie Lou, Jane Lynn, a young Bill Bailey, Spook Beckman, Willie Thall, and what appears to be Peter Grant. Unmarked — blown glass. Circa 1940s–1950s. One set available.
At 6 inches tall with a 2.75-inch opening and 12 oz capacity, these are proper Tom Collins / highball glasses — actually usable, not just displayable. The bright white pyroglaze portraits against the green glass make them striking on a bar or in a display case. The Bonnie Lou glass shows yellowing and some scratches on the pyroglaze; all others are in excellent condition. All photographed.
A wonderful set for a radio history collector, a Cincinnati memorabilia enthusiast, a country music historian, or anyone who appreciates the particular magic of a piece that tells a very specific American story.
